The Perfect Balance

This is something I may never have an answer for but it seems I will have a period of downtime, where it feels I have an over abundance of time of which I have nothing to apply it to and then in a moment's notice, I will be up to my ears in projects. What's up with that? As of late, it's definetly been the latter. My head currently swoons with way too much to think about.  Code, design, people, deadlines, data, meetings... Thank God for manual labor and a house to work on. I believe it is one of the few things that is keeping me sane.

Let there be grass!

We are finally starting to see progress on our front lawn! It's been a summer project to redo the landscaping around our house, but alas, it is now, for the most part, fall and we still have plenty to do. We are finally hitting stages, however, that prove that we are making progress.

We laid a decent portion of edgers around the south east side of the house and piled in a bunch of wood chips, making a significant difference on the look of the front. Now we are trying to determine how to lay out the north east side, as there will be a walkway we will place in the future. I'm really stoked about the end results. We also laid a good amount of grass seed in the front as it was all tilled. We are eagerly awaiting that to grow. I'll post pictures as soon as I get some of the progress!

Landscaping Progress Report Numero Uno

I know I know, you are all just dying to see exactly what our house looks like on the outside right now. Kind of a mess, but it should look wonderful by the end of summer...

Walkway from the Back
North Side from the back.

MANLY

North side door. I busted up the walk-way as you can see here.

Front walk-way.

A little hard to see here, but we removed the rocks from the front walk-way. As not seen in the photo, we removed a good portion of them in front of the porch, as well.

Clothes Line

There are a few projects here. First off, we put up a couple Trellises in an attempt to hide the shed. They are up now and look alright. We are also going to removed the clothes line poles you see here. I also need to clean up all sorts of crap I threw behind the shed. Uff....

If you are interested in seeing a few more pictures of our house, feel free to check out my Home Improvement Set on Flickr. The Photos have details on what's going on in them so you aren't left out. I'll keep you posted on any developments.

Landscaping, Roofing, Busch Lights

My Memorial Day Weekend was a blast! Earlier last week, my Father-in-Law suggested getting some roofing done at my place, and while we were at it, start ripping up the landscaping. Early Saturday morning, we started working on the roof and besides a few minor things, managed to wrap that up by Sunday evening. No more leaks in the kitchen! w00t! It's a great feeling to know that is accomplished.

Also, over the last week, we have been removing a lot of the crappy landscaping rocks and the busted up walk-way on the side of the house. Since I moved in, water would pool up against our home. It wasn't bad enough to leak into the basement, but it's probably best to tackle it before it becomes an issue. Once we are done removing all this stone, we are going to lay some nice bricks down and put some wood chips around instead. In the end, I'm hoping that it will look nicer. It should. It does in my brain, anyways.

I also started setting up a trellis in the back so you can't see our gross looking shed (and neighbors in back) as easily. Down the line we are hoping to have some nice viney plants on those.

After 12 hour days, it was a real treat to kick back and grill with some friends in the evening. Waking up was brutal, however, as I am a Programmer (not used to physical labor!!) and don't get sore too often. It was a great feeling. Also HUGE thanks to Dick! I am able, I just lack initiative when I don't know how to do something. He really helped me out with the whole process of roof and landscape.

I'll get some pictures of the processes this evening, I hope. I didn't take as many as I would have liked, and I'm definitely lacking pictures of what it looked like before the process, so you'll just have to trust me that it is going to look better!
